How do I find the interactive exercises?

The interactive exercises that go with Working Mandarin for Beginners are online, not on the CD that accompanies either book. They are hosted by Quia and can be found at http://books.quia.com/books/bookstore.html . Type in the title of the book to find it. Here you can sample the exercises, purchase access to the exercises, or adopt the exercises for use by your class. Additional information about how to do this appears inside the front cover of your textbook and on the Quia website.

What are the interactive exercises?

The interactive exercises include all of the exercises that are printed in the Working Mandarin for Beginners textbook in an online, self-correcting format. We have partnered with the online company Quia, who hosts the exercises. Any audio that is needed in order to answer the questions is also available on the Quia site. (Please see Quia's system requirements for more information about playing these files.)

The exercises are most often multiple choice questions, but they also include open-ended questions. The multiple choice questions are graded automatically by the computer because they are predetermined answers. The open-ended questions require various levels of participation by the teacher during the grading process in order to ensure that students receive the proper credit for their work. These settings are viewable and modifiable in the Teacher Workstation portion of Quia.com, which is visible once you have created a new account on the site. To create an account and see a sample of the interactive exercises, visit http://books.quia.com/books/bookstore.html .

For teachers, the site also provides a detailed look at the progress being made by each student in your class, access to templates from which you can create your own exercises, grading options, and much more.

For independent learners, the site allows you to learn business Chinese outside of a classroom environment by grading your work or providing sample answers.

Can I use the interactive exercises if I am not enrolled in a class that is using Working Mandarin for Beginners?

Yes! By purchasing access to the interactive exercises on Quia.com, you will be able to complete the exercises, which will be graded by the computer. For exercises for which there is more than one answer, you will be shown sample answers against which you can check your work. Quia.com does not provide instructors or instructional aides beyond these items.

Can I see a sample of the interactive exercises before I decide if I want to use them in my classroom or independently?
